Bringing equity to the airwaves one member at a time

The Women’s Radio Collective formed in January of 2009 at CJAM 99.1 FM. Our mandate is to attract, train and retain female volunteers to create gender equity in campus-community radio. We offer opportunities for women to learn and develop broadcasting skills to produce their own alternative media. The collective fosters female empowerment on and off the airwaves, and encourages members to assert their feminist perspectives.

Some special shows on the horizon...

Season's greetings from CJAM's Women's Radio Collective!

We've got some special shows planned the next few weeks and we want to ensure that you're kept "in the know" for what's in store!

On Monday, December 28 tune into Milk and Vodka from 5 to 6 PM for a "Best of 2009" edition of the program. Hosted by Hilda Coker and Cassandra Caverhill.

On Monday, January 4 Milk and Vodka will feature part one of a two-part special titled "Ladies of the Eighties". Join Cassandra Caverhill for an in-depth look at some of the incredible music and women from this decade from 5 to 6 PM.

On Wednesday, January 6 Genesis will be part one of a two-part series devoted to remarkable women who passed away in 2009. We'll talk about notable female activists, political leaders, and public figures who are sadly, no longer with us, and discuss their contributions to feminism and human rights. Hosted by Cassandra Caverhill.

On Monday, January 11 Milk and Vodka is all about "Ladies of the Eighties" part deux. Join Cassandra Caverhill for an in-depth look at female-fronted acts and solo artists in the new wave, no wave, post-punk and dance music from this decade, 5 to 6 PM.

On Wednesday, January 13 Genesis will be part two of our retrospective uncovering the lives of remarkable women who passed away in 2009. Hosted by Cassandra Caverhill.

Interested in joining the Women's Radio Collective? There's never been a better time to join! CJAM will be hosting an Open House and Orientation on Monday, January 18 starting at 5 PM.

We'll talk about how YOU can help us bring programming with a feminist perspective to CJAM's airwaves, even if you've never had any prior radio experience! You'll also meet with new volunteers, learn about the recording project we're about to begin, tour our facilities and have the chance to interact LIVE on the air during our music program Milk and Vodka!

CJAM is located in the basement of the CAW Student Center on the University of Windsor campus, and all are welcome to attend!

To confirm your participation phone Cassandra Caverhill, CJAM Women's Radio Collective Coordinator at 519-971-3606.
